Van Gaal happy with formation change

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has seen positive signs from his recently "remodelled" team and is confident positive results will come.
For the last three games – the draws with West Brom and Chelsea and the narrow derby defeat – the boss has fielded teams with one striker instead of two.
He feels that change has aided the balance of the side and allowed the Reds to play at a higher level for longer; previously he had admitted to being frustrated by some of his team’s second-half performances so far this season.
"With the other system, I could play with two strikers but then the balance was gone," the manager explained at Friday’s press conference. "We had difficulties in the last half-an-hour.
"That is why I have remodelled the structure. Since that game [Everton], we have had fewer goals in favour but also fewer goals against. And we have played against the better teams in the Premier League on an equal level, more or less."

Van Gaal was asked why it is taking longer for his new-look United side to hit top gear, when other Premier League managers like Southampton’s Ronald Koeman and West Ham’s Sam Allardyce are doing well with numerous new players.
"I have already explained that," he responded. "I am training in another way than most of the other managers are doing. I train players in their brains.
"Every player has to know why they are doing things on the pitch. Of course it takes a lot of time. But at the end, when they know it and they are doing those things with conscience, the results shall come.
"That shall give me results in time – and not only one game. That is what I want to develop. Not only for one match but for a certain period."
